I’m a day late, but hopefully not a dollar short…

As much as we all wish we didn’t, it’s all too often we take our loved ones for granted. Unfortunately, I’m no different. On the website and throughout my blogs, I’m often saying how thankful I am for my amazing friends, customers, and family, but there’s a group of people who don’t get nearly enough attention.  That’s my staff.  It’s weird even calling them my “staff” since I consider each of them a dear friend and part of the family. There’s been much ado about how exciting Bryant Park was for us, but you haven’t heard about how thankful I was for their contribution! What an oversight!!

The girls are each so amazing, and I can’t thank them enough for believing in me and helping promote the jewelry. They were so reliable, responsible, and fantastic to work with that they each brought a special spark to the event.  We had Mara, who I’m not sure can be encompassed by words, because her personality is larger than any description I could write.  With her witty responses and built-in sarcasm, she made a cold day warm with banter putting everyone around her at ease.

Cecilia, a.k.a. “fire hazard”, will hopefully read this in good humor knowing her mishaps with the heater were also one of the most endearing aspects of working with her.   She is smart, headstrong, and always responsible (senza heater, of course).   Her strong sense of self paired with her demure story-telling always made for a great afternoon of learning about her Colombian history and world travels.

Michaela, a friend who stepped up to help in my time of need, was quite a life-saver. With a jam-packed work and social schedule, she always found time to help me close on Saturday nights and come in weeknights after work.  Luckily, I don’t think it put too much of a hamper on her Sunday football watching, though!  A fun-loving gal with a salty streak, Michaela’s truly a friend you know you can count on…

And speaking of friends you can count on, I haven’t forgotten Alexis, Sindia, or Michelle.  Alexis is a friend from college who also stepped up to help me fill any gaps we needed.  Originally from Florida like me, I watched her suffer on the verge of frostbite and never give in to the cold.  Her perseverance was unbelievable, and she was always so chipper.  Her smile is contagious while she makes it know she won’t be crossed… I just love her!

My, oh, my… Sindia. Where does one begin? Who knew when I met her two years ago, I’d have a great friend, and a third arm I couldn’t live without?  She’s truly the multi-tasking woman everyone wishes they knew.  Sweet but firm. Open but politely reserved.  Fun, optimistic, loyal, and persistent.  She’s just fantastic, and I don’t know how I could have created the Bryant Park shop without her.  She worked absolutely tirelessly, and I can’t thank her enough.

Last but not least, while Michelle wasn’t at Bryant Park, I know she was in spirit.  She is our liaison, eyes and ears to the office during events.  Thank you for being the modern woman who balances work, life, and kids while giving it all you’ve got… we love you for it!

So after another long-winded blog, sadly a day late, I close with a final “thank you” to all my wonderful friends, family and customers I’ve written about this week.  But today, I dedicate a special “thank you” to my amazing girls.  You’re my friends and family… Thank you for everything!

XX, Wendy

Good Friends and Hot Cocoa kept us warm this winter... thank you to all!

Good Friends and Hot Cocoa kept us warm this winter... thank you to all!

Last year (in 2009) we took off on a new and exciting venture - The Bryant Park Holiday Shops! Starting off we really didn’t know what to expect, but we jumped in head first with our hammers and nails and saws (Well, our neighbor’s saw. Thank you Sandra & Jeff!).  We had our own little boutique space for 2 months and it didn’t just materialize out of thin air. With the help of my husband and Sindia, we went in and painted, put up crown molding, laid wood flooring and put up each piece of jewelry. Sounds daunting doesn’t it? It was really a fantastic experience and we all just felt so accomplished that we’d do it again today… or at least soon…

So there we are starting our holiday market in our winter hats and gloves and each and every day and night getting visits from some really wonderful people. As I have mentioned before, I have the ‘gift of gab’ but who would have thought that all my friends and staff who helped out with our Bryant Park Shop did too?! We got to know so many of our customers and really loved it when they would come back again to say hi! By the end of our Bryant Park shop we knew and recognized many friendly faces that would come out to not only shop for themselves but also for their loved ones.

On those chilly winter nights when we just wanted to cuddle up in bed under 10 blankets, we had the pleasure of meeting some really wonderful customers and now friends. If I name them all, I don’t think we’d have room for any more blogs so I’ll keep it to a just few… Pat T who treated herself to a Birthday treat on more than on occasion, Suzanne S who kept me company on many late Friday nights trying on all of many styles and treating herself to quite a few, Hee-Sun & Daniel who would come in together and shop and chat and then Daniel jumped back in to surprise Hee-Sun with an extra gift or two for the holidays, Efstathia K who would come visit us from her friend’s shop (yummiest paninis at Taste of Venice!) and kept coming back before and after each of her shifts, Chris and Debra B who came in to shop and chat with me on New Years Day and then came back right before we closed up shop for the year (so technically they were our first 2010 shoppers!), and lastly Palmer & Christine who came in to shop with their cutie dog, Sugar, AND right before expecting their first baby. I wish them the best!

The list really does go on and on but I will cut if off there…at least until my next and last posting. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making Bryant Park such a great experience for me and for keeping us all company on those chilly winter nights!

“20-10″ Day 8: Perfectly Tailored…

by WendyJanuary 17, 2010

Day 8: We’re on a quest for perfect. Not close enough but perfect. The best way to do that is to tailor a piece to the person. My signature collection, “Fiore”, is so popular because of the way the shape compliments the face and collarbone, and I think that’s the most important thing to consider [...]

“20-10″ Day 6: Our D.C. “Divas”

by WendyJanuary 15, 2010

Day 6:  I thought I’d talk about a few specific people today, and while I haven’t met them in person, sometimes I feel as though I already know them. I’m going to lovingly dub them my “D.C. Divas” since they seem like the life of a party.
On a girls trip to New York in December, [...]

“20-10″ Day 5: Tweet, tweet…

by WendyJanuary 14, 2010

Day 5’s going to be a bit of a broad topic. With being under the weather, I haven’t been on twitter or keeping up with my e-mails as much as I should, but I just wanted to take a day to recognize how fantastic our “twitter peeps” have been to us. Our followers have just [...]

“20-10″ Day 4: The “Big Mouth” Syndrome

by WendyJanuary 13, 2010

Day 4 is here, and I’m not supposed to be writing. No computer for me according to the eye doctor - crazy, I know! What a bad week to learn I’m not supposed to be at my monitor! While I’m trying to be a model patient, we all know that me being quiet and taking [...]

“20-10″ Day 3: Road Trip Home!

by WendyJanuary 12, 2010

Yesterday I “visited” Lori in Minnesota, and today, it’s time to get warm and head south to Florida.  Unfortunately, I don’t get to see my loved ones in the “Sunshine State” as often as I’d like, but still feel incredibly blessed knowing they’re always there for me.  It’s amazing that making jewelry has been the [...]

10 days for a “20-10″ THANK YOU SALE!

by WendyJanuary 10, 2010
Thumbnail image for 10 days for a “20-10″ THANK YOU SALE!

A new year, a new decade, and another reminder of why I have the BEST customers, friends, and family anyone could ask for.  As the new year approached, I kept thinking of everything 2010 might hold for me and what 2009 has given me.  Wrapping up Bryant Park really gave me pause and reminded me [...]
